THE ART OF WEAVING
about
Faye Chatzi began her professional career as a graphic designer on the island of Mykonos. Soon however, her anti-conformism and need to express herself freely through tradition took her on a new journey. It was a handmade shawl that led her to create, back in 2016, her own brand, FAYE CHATZI, dedicated to the ancient art of weaving.
She defines the practice of weaving as a deeply meditative process. Not only does it have its roots in the rich past of Greek culture, but it also has a totally ecological character. The weaved textiles are handmade in all steps of their production: the sheep’s wool is gathered and washed, it is then spun to finally form yarn. The raw materials are weaved on the loom, or alternatively they can be they sewn onto fabrics of silk, cotton, linen or viscose.
Her first collection is named Agnithes, after the ancient Greek word for loom weights. It is a timeless series to which new items are added every year.
Her collections are the result of a special coming together of nature and ancient Greek culture. They include items of clothing, beachwear, jewellery and accessories, as well as custom made bridal dresses, and they all reflect a fluidity and combination between timelessness and emotions. Her collections inspire those who look for something both classic and modern. They revive the art of weaving, artfully marrying elements inspired from the classic Doric order with contemporary style.
